How to Choose the Perfect Oral Care Products for You

Last updated 6 years ago

With so many oral products on the market today, it can be a bit challenging to determine which products are the best. Specific dental products are used to keep teeth healthy and clean, while others are aimed at preventing tartar buildup or whitening the smile.

People who have sensitive teeth can also find a vast selection of products designed to reduce sensitivity.  Toothpastes come in a variety of flavors that can be chosen based on preference. Replacing toothbrushes every three months is recommended by most general and cosmetic dentists

Toothbrushes and Dental Floss
Choosing the right toothbrush is easy. Most people should use a soft-bristled brush that can reach the back teeth with ease. Some people have small mouths and may need to buy smaller brushes that can comfortably reach the back molars. Other choices include electric or battery-powered toothbrushes that take some of the manual work out of brushing your teeth.

Using a water pic product can help to remove food particles from in between the teeth, as well as hard-to-reach areas of the mouth. Waxed dental floss that can easily slide in between teeth, as well as in the pockets between the gums and teeth, is an excellent choice. Some dental floss with special gliding material can be purchased to make flossing a bit easier. Parents can purchase children’s dental floss and help their kids floss their teeth regularly.

Mouthwash and Rinses
Most dentists recommend fluoride mouthwash for everyone over the age of six years old to reduce and even prevent decay. A mouthwash can help to fight off bacteria that cause tooth decay and gum disease.  For some patients, prescription-strength mouth rinses and toothpastes are prescribed by a dentist to help defeat periodontal disease.
