What is Gingivitis?

Last updated 4 years ago

Gingivitis is the early stage of gum disease. Tender, swollen gums, or gums that bleed easily during brushing and flossing, are signs of gingivitis. Smoking, crooked teeth, and oral contraceptives can increase your risk for gingivitis. To prevent gingivitis, eat a well-balanced diet, brush twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, floss after each meal, and visit your dentists regularly. Watch this short clip from the American Dental Association to learn more about gingivitis.

Gingivitis is reversible, so long as you visit your dentist early enough in its progression. For all of your dental care needs, visit Dr. Kenn Kakosian in NYC.
