Comparing Partial and Complete Dentures

Last updated 3 years ago

From higher confidence to increased comfort, there are a number of reasons why you should consider wearing dentures if you are missing teeth. As your Manhattan cosmetic dentistry professionals will share with you during your initial denture consultation, no matter what your reason is for choosing to wear dentures, you will have the option of two very different types, partial and complete. Keep reading to learn more about the different denture styles:

Conventional Complete Dentures
When discussing complete dentures, it is important to note that there are two kinds: conventional and immediate. Your NYC Invisalign and cosmetic dentistry professional will likely recommend so-called conventional dentures if it is necessary to remove all of your teeth. Since your mouth will need several weeks to recover, conventional dentures are designed to be placed into your mouth once the healing has taken place, at least two months after tooth removal.

Immediate Complete Dentures
The other type of complete dentures, immediate, are more appropriate for you if you are already missing all of your teeth, since they can be fitted right away. Your cosmetic dentistry team will likely have to meet with you several times during the healing process in order to ensure a proper fit for the dentures, since your mouth can change significantly over time.

Removable Partial Dentures
Removable dentures are likely to be the right fit for you if you still have one or more teeth remaining in your upper or lower jaw. Your Manhattan dentist will attach the removable dentures, which are essentially a bridge containing false teeth and a false gum, directly on to crowns next to your natural teeth for a nice and snug fit.

Dr. Kenn Kakosian D.D.S., P.C., and his staff can help you determine which type of dentures is right for you during your next visit. In addition to this dentistry procedure, we also offer cosmetic dentistry services such as veneers, Invisalign, and teeth whitening. To schedule any of these services, call us today at (212) 661-9777 or visit our offices in the Chrysler Building.
